Writing a good prompt
The single biggest lever on the quality of a Vidax video.
A good prompt has four parts: an angle, concrete anchors, the arc, and what to show.
The formula
| Part | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Angle | The specific claim, not the topic | "how a $47bn company collapsed in six weeks" |
| Anchors | Names, dates, numbers to research and put on screen | "WeWork, Adam Neumann, the 2019 S-1, November 2023" |
| Arc | Beginning, turn and end | "the rise, the failed IPO, the bankruptcy" |
| What to show | The evidence you want on screen | "the S-1 filing, press coverage, the all-hands video" |
Weak versus strong
Weak: a video about WeWork
Everything is left to interpretation: the length, the angle, the era, the point.
Strong: A 5-minute business documentary on WeWork's collapse — the $47bn valuation, Adam Neumann, the 2019 S-1 that killed the IPO, and the 2023 bankruptcy. Show the filing, the press reaction and the numbers.
Things worth naming
- Length, if you have one in mind. "A 3-minute explainer on…" sets the length chip for you.
- Format, in your own words. "A news report on…" or "A top-10 countdown of…" picks the format.
- Era, for anything historical. It changes what footage is allowed.
- People, by full name. The research and the footage search both key off them.
- The point. What should a viewer take away? Say it and the ending will land.
Things to leave out
Camera directions, shot lists, and style instructions in the prompt. The look is a separate choice, and describing it in words competes with the style you actually pick.
